Dear Patients,

We are open from 29th June 2020.


We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health.

You may have heard that dental practices were allowed to open from Monday 8 June.

Our practice will be opening on Monday 29th June 2020 but we just wanted to be clear that this will not be business as usual. The treatments you are offered may be different to those you received before, depending on staff and equipment available. It will take some time before services return to what you previously experienced as normal. Please be patient.

Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our surgery. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Due to the nature of Covid 19 we decided to reopen only once we have the safest working environment in place for our staff and patients.
This includes managing social distancing, having systems in place for remote consultations, appointments that minimize the risk of catching Covid 19 for our most vulnerable patients and having all the PPE in place to treat patients safely.

Our practice follows infection control guidelines made by the governing bodies. We are up-to-date on new guidance that has been issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to recommendations.

You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff.

For example:

Prior to your dental appointment, you will receive an email with all necessary paperwork to complete and to return to us in advance of your appointment, if you do not have an email or require additional assistance please contact reception. This is so that we can achieve a contactless system and minimise risk of spreading the virus. It is a very important aspect of the new way in which we will be working.

• Our practice will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you arrive for your appointment.

On arrival at the dental practice,

• Your temperature will be checked and recorded

• We have hand sanitiser that we will ask you to use when you enter the practice. You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the practice for you to use as needed.

• You will be given a fluid-resistant mask to wear on entering the practice.

• You will be asked to place any belongings into a designated box which will be sealed, it will contain a clear bag, please remove for your later use. PLEASE COME WITH LITTLE OR NO BELONGINGS.

• We no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect

• The toilet will no longer be available

• Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.

On entering the dental treatment room,

• You will be asked to wash your hands using soap prior to sitting on the dental chair

• You will be asked to remove your face mask and place it in the clear bag you were previously given

On completion of dental treatment,

• You will be asked to replace your face mask

• You will then be asked to wash your hands prior to being escorted back to reception

On Departure:

• If any additional payment is due this will be taken at the reception

• Your next appointment will either be made at reception or you will be contacted after you have left the surgery

• You will be asked to collect your belongings prior to leaving the surgery

• You will be asked to dispose of your mask before leaving and place in the bin provided

• You will then be asked to sanitise your hands once more prior to leaving

 

We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

How you can help:

• With the exception of children and patients with carers, patients should come alone

• A distance of at least 2 metres must be observed if another patient is present in the dental practice

• Payment should be made by card in advance of your appointment

• Staff will not shake your hand

• If you show symptoms following appointment booking, you should contact the practice by phone

• Please do not arrive early to the practice. The front door will be closed. You should wait outside the practice until a member of our team telephones you and then comes to collect you

• Please do not arrive without an appointment

• All paperwork that we would need, for example, medical history questionnaires, consent forms and NHS paperwork will be sent out to you in advance to complete and email us back prior to your appointment. It is very important that you comply with this as it is for your own safety. Our team can help you answer any questions by telephone

• We may postpone your appointment if we have not received your completed paperwork by email prior to the appointment
